Laboratory (often called synthetic) Stones possess almost identical physical and chemical properties to their natural "fellows" because they are grown in a laboratory using processes simulating those by which nature creates natural precious and semi-precious Stones. Growing synthetic Stones is a relatively new practice, so often a laboratory Stone is perceived as an imitation or artificial Stone. The difference is huge, because while Hydrostone has the chemical composition of its natural equivalent, Imitation Stone only aims to outwardly resemble the natural Stone, being made of glass, plastic, resin, ceramic, etc.
